2 Big Announcements

So I have some big news for you…and no, I’m not pregnant. (Why does everyone always immedidately think that?)
Announcement #1:
My book, Girls Fight Back! The College Girl’s Guide to Protecting Herself, is now available for pre-orders. Buy it today, it will get shipped to you in mid-June. It’s so awesome to be done and going to print…there is no other book like this just for college girls who want practical advice for staying safe and strong on campus. CLICK HERE TO BUY IT.
Announcement #2:
On June 3, 2006 I will officially open the doors to New Jersey’s only women’s self-defense studio. This has been a dream of mine since I started GFB back in 2001, and over the past few months many doors have opened to make this possible. CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE.
So there you have it. Life is crazy busy, but so many good things are happening. Spring has officially sprung here at GFB, and it’s officially a new beginning…
Mandatory Day Off

Sometimes when you’re working too hard, I think the higher powers decide they’re gonna pull the plug on you. This has been an insane few weeks at GFB, and you’ll learn about all the details in tomorrow’s e-newsletter.
So yesterday the office phone line got zapped somehow and my laptop hard drive started to eat itself. Being totally incommunicado, I was forced to take a day off. So of course, I did what all people do who haven’t had a day off in months. I went to Ikea. Seriously, who does that? I guess I do. It’s fun for me. I love the meatballs.
Stay tuned to tomorrow’s e-news where I will make 2 very big announcements…
The Record

Yesterday a great article about self-defense was published in the Bergen Record. (New Jersey) Both myself and my lead male instructor, Kevin Lockwood, were quoted.
A strange assurance…

Messages can sometimes arrive as odd packages, delivered from God, the Universe or whatever you believe in. This all comes at a time where I’m trying to put out a book and continue my hectic speaking and traveling schedule. As a result, I was starting to get a tad overwhelmed, and yesterday I did what I always do to do some good thinking. I went for a jog.
So I’m running through the streets of Hoboken, contemplating all these wonderful yet crazy changes going on at GFB…when all of a sudden, I damn near get hit by a car as I’m running across the street. Clearly, the driver hadn’t seen me and I had the right of way. While normally this might warrant a dirty look (at the very least), the particular automobile was a green VW beetle convertible. For me, this totally forgave the deed. I love Beetles, and I have one myself. They’re just happiness in the form of a car. So while I’m about to gear up again and keep going on the jog, ANOTHER car almost hits me…and this time it’s a light blue Beetle convertible! With blue and green being the colors of GFB, and Beetles being my favorite happy sight, I have to wonder if this was just a subtle assurance that all is well, that change is good and that only postive vibes and happiness await…
Now if only I didn’t have to nearly die twice in order to receive that message. That would’ve been nice.

GFB to the GSB
April 12, 2006 | Leave a CommentPosted by admin | Filed Under Erin Weed's Blog
Yesterday was a full day o’ ass whoopin. Started off in Gladstone, NJ speaking to about 100 fabulous girls at Gill St. Bernard High School. We had a total blast! Afterwards, the girls decided they want to start a Girls Fight Back club at their school, which I think is genius. How cool if we could have a GFB club in high schools across the country!
After that I drove to Flemington, NJ where I gave a program that was hosted by Women’s Crisis Services. They are an awesome non profit group who provides emergency assistance to women who are survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence. The group of women varied in ages and demographics, but they all walked out of there with one thing in common…they all now know the power of their booty!
Holla Hartford

Last week I spoke at University of Hartford, and I have to say, they were an impressive bunch. I was the guest speaker for their Sexual Assault Awareness Week, and they had a million events planned for it. Campuses like them are so inspirational, because they really make ending violence a community issue instead of just a woman’s problem.
So Written…

A few days ago, my book was unwritten. Now it’s officially written! I have been in a St. Louis coffee shop for 5 hours finishing the last chapter. Just a moment ago, I pressed “send” on the email to my editor with the final chapter attached.
Ironically, I am in this town for my good friend and fellow author’s wedding. I told him finishing my book after more than two long years was his wedding gift. Finishing this book feels like giving birth to an elephant…so glad to be done! Now comes the fun part…marketing it, and sharing it with college girls nationwide.
Thanks for all your support and encouragement the past two years.
And no, this isn’t an April Fools trick.
