Around 3:00 am this morning, I was awakened from a sound sleep by the melody of a most beautiful song bird. My first thought wasn’t about its lovely tune, however. It was more along the lines of, “Do we own a BB gun?”
I’m so charming when I’m sleep deprived, no?
Trying to fall back asleep, I had no choice but to really listen to this misguided bird, singing gorgeously in the dead of night. It occurred to me how similar this bird was to my life’s work – making upbeat, optimistic noise in the darkness – and sometimes irking people in the process.
In case you missed my announcement a few weeks ago, this Fall I’m launching a new business venture that’s an extension of my work with Girls Fight Back. It’s a socially conscious speakers bureau called Evoso (evolution+social). I’m building it on the premise than anyone has the power to speak their truth, and subsequently change their world.
But it’s not always fun or simple to get honest with ourselves, let alone share our stories with others. Topics like human rights, cancer, global injustice, hunger, child abuse or even doing business in a more socially evolved way…people don’t always want to hear it.
They’d much rather put the pillow over their head and go back to sleep.
One of my biggest responsibilities in starting this bureau is having conversations with some of our world’s most influential changemakers, to discuss innovative ways to enhance their platform. Today I dedicate this post to folks who have listened to my vision, or agreed to hop on this wild roller coaster ride with me. I appreciate you.
Thanks for staring into a dark cave and shining your lantern.
Thank you for singing your song.
