Some days it’s just hard to read the news. Like yesterday, with that horrible tornado in Oklahoma. Also yesterday, the death of 18-year-old rock star, Zach Sobiech, from a rare form of terminal cancer.
I spent most of the day working on a speech I’m giving in June, all about the past 12 years of Girls Fight Back, losing my friend Shannon to homicide and trying to tie in all the realizations that have transpired in my life since then. All of it just contributed to being a heavy day.
Today the country woke up to see reports of scores dead in the Midwest from the wrath of Mother Nature, and an Upworthy campaign going mad viral about Zach’s last days (a web series by Soul Pancake). All these people are still gone – it’s over for them.
But the rest of us still have a choice how we’re going to live.
In the video Zach talks about his view of the meaning of life. He believes that it’s quite simple…
Make someone happy.
I was making breakfast while the video was playing in the background, and asked my son what would make him happy right now. His response?
So I put Zach’s amazing song called “Clouds” on the radio, and we did just that.
Maybe happiness…and life in general…doesn’t need to be so hard.
