TEEN PROGRAMS
Teens Fight Back! (for teen girls only)
Beginning with her tragic story of losing a sorority sister to homicide near the campus of Eastern Illinois University, Erin creates a powerful impact upon students making them realize bad things can happen to anyone. Erin moves on to discuss topics including: how to reduce the risk of being victimized, what is intuition and how to trust it, strategies for staying safe on the Internet, how to be a street savvy girl, ways to date safely and the relationship between alcohol/drugs and sexual assault. Next comes the interactive part! She maneuvers the crowd into an open area of the room and proceeds to teach verbal de-escalation, strong body language, attacks while standing, ground fighting and how to use improvised weapons. Students leave her program feeling strong, empowered and confident. Erin specializes in making the often shunned topic of teen safety “cool” to the students and encourages them to learn more and find a great self-defense course at www.girlsfightback.org.
COLLEGE PROGRAMS
Girls Fight Back! (women only)
As Erin’s most popular program, Girls Fight Back teaches college women to live safe and empowered lives. Beginning with her tragic story of losing a sorority sister to homicide near the campus of Eastern Illinois University, she creates a powerful impact upon students in regards to the prevalence of violence against women. However, the darkness ends there. Erin moves on to explain her 3 steps to a safe and empowered life. Erin explains how to reduce the risk of violence, how to understand your intuition, the best ways to live as a cybersafe co-ed, valuable strategies to secure dorms/apartments from home invasions and how to address violence in social settings. (dating violence, acquaintance rape, predatory drugs, etc.) Then it’s party time! Regardless of crowd size, students stand up and learn verbal de-escalation, strong body language, an effective self-defense formula, ground fighting strategies and how to use improvised weapons. Students leave her program with a more savvy and confident attitude that combines social fun, educational learning and personal safety while on campus.
How to be a Bad Victim
We hear it in the news all the time. Violence does happen on college campuses at an alarming rate, even in what we consider “safe places” and at the hands of seemingly harmless people. Furthermore, many violent incidents can be easily predicted and avoided by trusting intuition and by using a few simple strategies. It is time for college students to take control of their personal safety by learning how to be a BAD VICTIM. In this program, Erin will explain the realities of campus crime in America today, and teach students what they can do to avoid becoming a statistic. Erin teaches students how to be a hard target of crime, how to secure dorms/apartments from break-ins, how to detect violent people and strategies for responding in a dangerous situation. She concludes this program with self-defense demonstrations that any student could use in a confrontation.
Stayin’ Alive on Spring Break
It’s halfway through second semester and students are gearing up for the long-awaited, MTV inspired Spring Break vacation. But the false ideology of whatever happens on spring break stays on spring break is becoming increasingly dangerous. In March 2006, CNN flew Erin Weed to Daytona Beach for a special report on Spring Break. Erin had the chance to get an in-depth look at what’s happening on spring break and the danger behind seemingly innocent situations. In this program, Erin will offer proactive strategies for: party situations, hotel security, avoiding date rape drugs, air & car travel and the top 5 ways to avoid crime targeted at tourists. She’ll also demonstrate her favorite self-defense techniques that could be used to escape a violent confrontation. Using her signature tone of down-to-earth humor, Erin reminds students to have a blast on spring break…but to do so safely. For more info, go to www.SafeSpringBreak.org
EMPLOYEE GROUPS
Women’s Safety 101
This program is perfect for a power lunch session that will provide employees with basic personal safety tips. Situational safety concepts are explained for the workplace, in parking lots, in the car, in the home and on the street. Erin will dismiss popular safety myths, and replace them with innovative violence prevention tips that can save lives.
Women Fight Back!
Erin begins her most popular program by sharing her story of losing a college friend to homicide. She goes on to teach employees how to reduce the risk of being victimized and how to physically defend themselves if confronted by an attacker. Erin addresses the value of a woman’s intuition, and then comes the interactive self-defense! Prior to any physical fighting instruction, the women will learn mental and verbal self-defense, as well as boundary-setting and de-escalation. Erin explains common traits of attackers and how to react to a violent person. Vital strike areas are explained and then applied to vertical fighting and ground fighting scenarios. This is a “no contact” program, meaning women can wear whatever they would like.
